Lessons Learned

Dave Lewis, Englewood Code Enforcement Supervisor, will discuss a case he uncovered that dealt with marijuana, rodent breeding and other dangerous issues. This discussion will segue into the Marijuana and Homemade Explosives class.


9:00 -11:45 am

Safety for Code Enforcement - Marijuana and Homemade Explosives

This course will address the process of manufacturing “Hash Oil” and addresses the dangers and associated risks to Code Enforcement Officials that the illicit manufacturing of Marijuana Concentrates and Grow House Operations presents.  This course discusses safe practices for Code Enforcement officials when encountering these marijuana labs and grows. This course presents a basic level of awareness and hazards associated the Homemade Explosives to Code Enforcement officials while conducting official business in commercial and residential occupancies. This course may include demonstrative evidence seized by the Aurora Fire Department, Fire and Explosive Investigators.

Property Rental Licensing
Jenn Ross, Boulder Rental Licensing Enforcement, will discuss the pros and cons of rental licensing, as well as the impact it has on fighting neighborhood blight.


2:00 - 2:30 pm

Marijuana Case Reviews

Kristin Gates, Commerce City Code Enforcement, will discuss some of the Marijuana Cases she and her team have handled and why they have changed their approach to dealing with these cases. 


2:30 - 3:00 pm
Illegal Squatters
Tom Carlson, Northglenn Code Enforcement Supervisor,will highlight a case about illegal squatters and steps they took to resolve the issue.
